Announcements ~ May 2017

If your son or daughter is graduating this spring from high school, college, or graduate school, please let the church office know so they can be recognized. We need the student’s name, school, and degree (for college or beyond) and we’d love to hear their future plans. This information can also be emailed to Nicolle Behnke at flcyouthandfamily@tds.net">flcyouthandfamily@tds.net.

Wednesday Musicians Wanted. Summer’s coming, and a series of accidents, upcoming travel plans and more means our praise team is short on musicians. We are especially in need of guitarists and male singers, but other musicians are most welcome. Also, you don’t need to commit to every Wednesday. Please forward contact info to faith21@tds.net">faith21@tds.net and questions to Kim Bremer at 754-4335.

How might we as people of faith respond to the following questions:

If you thought you were dying, what would matter most?

Have you had a conversation with your family about end-of-life goals and preferences?

We are inviting you to join us Thursday, June 15th from 6-8pm for a free screening and discussion of the PBS program “Being Mortal.” “Being Mortal” delves into the hopes of patients and families facing terminal illness. It follows a surgeon, Dr. Atul Gawande, as he shares stories from the people and families he encounters. It opens up the dialog around “Have you and your family had the tough conversations and planned ahead?”

After the screening, we will have a time of discussion about the program led by one of the chaplains at Aurora, but also on how to take the next steps when it comes to identifying and communicating your wishes about end-of-life goals and preferences. This is an important conversation to have no matter your age.

Also joining us this evening will be a Thrivent representative who will be able to talk about financial planning, but especially for end of life financial planning.

We will have subs, drinks, and other snacks available. Please come join us for this event. All are welcome because it is never too early to start the conversation.

We are looking for some plastic banquet tables for Family Fun Fest on Friday, June 23rd. Please contact Nicki or Penny Larson if you can borrow your tables. Thanks!!

SILENT AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED: The Hands on Mission Committee is in need of baskets or items for our fundraiser for the Faith Fun Fest on Friday, June 23. We’d like people to bring the items on June 9 so that they can be displayed a couple of weeks before the event and people can start bidding. The bidding will end the evening of Faith Fun Fest with the winner selected at this time. We’d like the item(s) to be no more than $40.00 in value. Thank you for your help.

Please tune into WOMT, WGBA, or WBAY for ALL cancelations…Faith Lutheran will follow the Valders Public School District’s policy regarding closings, cancellations, etc. SO...If schools are closed…FAITH LUTHERAN is closed (church & office) no activities, worship, etc. If they dismiss classes early or cancel after school activities, FLC also cancels evening activities. No need to wonder, no need to get all bundled up.  Simply put- stay put!  What about Sundays?  If the worship service needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather, it will be announced ASAP.
