Pastor Erica Cunningham, Senior Pastor
Pastor Erica joined our staff in January 2013. Her primary passions for ministry include education, worship, and preaching. She has a great love and appreciation for the church and God’s people. She graduated from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, IA in May 2012. Pastor Erica did her internship at Settlement Lutheran Church, a rural congregation in Gowen, MI.
Pastor Erica grew up in Davenport, IA where most of her family still lives. She attended Augustana College in Rock Island where she majored in music performance (voice, piano, and organ). She lived in the Netherlands for a year, where she helped her aunt care for her two small children, and she has worked in early childhood education, teaching children from birth to age 5.
Pastor Erica loves music and served as choir director in her home congregation, working with children’s, youth, adult and handbell choirs. Although she’s not played the organ for several years, she still enjoys good organ music and the rich hymnody of the Lutheran Church.
Pastor Nicole Welke, Associate Pastor
Pastor Nicole joined our staff in January 2015. She graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN with a degree in religion with a coaching emphasis. She received her Masters of Divinity at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in May 2014. Pastor Nicole did her internship at the Lutheran Church of the Abiding Presence in Burke, VA. She also served as the Director of Christian Education and Youth and Family Ministry her senior year of seminary at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bethesda, MD.
Pastor Nicole grew up in Tomahawk, WI. She has a younger sister who is currently in her second year at Gustavus. Her parents live out in the country where Pastor Nicole first came to love the outdoors. She enjoys pretty much any sport, along with any type of outdoor activity. One of her favorite sports is swimming. She spends a great deal of time swimming, coaching and teaching. She also enjoys reading and sewing.
Pastor Nicole’s love for the outdoors and God led her to Crossways Waypost for 6 summers between college and seminary. It is a place where we are able to see God in new and exciting ways and creates a family. Waypost is also, where she came to understand her call to ministry and to listen to the ways God was working in her life.
When it comes to ministry, she can’t pick one thing that excites her most about being called to be a pastor. She looks forward to walking with individuals and the community to see how God is working within our midst and where God is leading us in the future. She believes God has some exciting new things for us as God’s people and can’t wait to be part of a community ready to serve as the hands and feet of Christ in the world today.
